        Do you really believe that it has somehow remain unchanged over the centuries? There are numerous documented cases of certain texts of the bible being burned by the church, with one pertaining to sex being the most notable. No copies of that particular book survive today.

        I don't dispute the fact of missing texts, like the Apocrypha, or the Dead Sea Scrolls, and Constantine did one heck of a number developing what would become the KJV. I am just stating the fact that most of this was recorded centuries ago, then again history has a way of repeating itself.

        Why so angry? Religious people are such a big target, and the media loves them. Is it just the big shiny thing currently getting your attention? What if the media switched to the number of university profs who have done bad things? Or MIT grads? Or rabbis, Maharishis, Imams, or_________? Pick your group?
        
        Most people hate on the religious (particularly the Christian sects) because they mistakenly equate religion with horrible behaviour. Kindly note that those who do bad while professing to love God are, quite simply, liars.

- I dont condone or like Oil spills and disasters such as this, but does anyone else find it odd that there have been so many Energy related disasters this year? And tons of media coverage about it ? I think Obama is using these things to pass his Cap and Trade bill, which is going to hurt our Economy much worse than it is already. Not just here in Texas , but everywhere.

  - i'd rather not have a heart, than be guilty for causing the spill... so when you buried a dead thing, how did you get to the beach? did you fly cross country to help, drive down to help at the beach, ride a bus/bike, or walk? and if you walked did you wear shoes made with rubber (oil) or hide?
    literally every thing you do will damage/diminish something. in your shoes alone either you are for killing animals, or at least for harvesting the dead ones. the best you can do is feel appropriate guilt and try not to do guilty things... and vote with your dollars, choose the lesser of evils in products until the evil itself has bled out.

      - Why?! One thing is to have an institutionalized need for oil.. another thing is taking responsibility for the accidents that happen and the mistakes that are being made. It is NOT just about your house is running on. Polluting the ocean and destroying wild life interrupts the ecological balanced that is already in danger. Without the need for oil, the outrage might be bigger, but when you rely on a resource you should at the very least be concerned and take responsibility!

        it's not a few. And they are part of the ecosystem. They may not look cool. And it may not seem like they are doing anything impressive. But they hold up their end of the deal. There are some good documentaries about how these things work... bird its a bug and makes sure there aren't many bugs and that prevents diseases from spreading in other animals and humans too and the fruit we eat and etc....

        The ecosystem of Earth has a rather remarkable ability to adapt. Obviously, we run the risk of driving certain species to extinction. New ones however, will eventually rise to take their place. We cannot exist on this planet without changing it. Might as well learn to adapt as our environment changes.

        As we are by developing other ways to extract energy from our resources and by trying to stay clear of fossil fuels. It should be clear to anyone who pays attention that the reason oil is such a big hit is because the industry has been built up around it and there is a lot of money to be made from it. Otherwise there would have been a much stronger will power to look for alternatives and at the same time preserving the atmosphere we live in.

Of course oil is slipping up, so it is imperative to the general flow of our industries and our economy that we not only find other resources and develop the appropriate technology to use it in an economic way as to prolong its endurance. And all this BEFORE we run out of oil.

        Well, one way or another, there is only so much oil on Earth. Unless we find a cheap way to artificially produce it, we will run out. Once we run out, we'll obviously have to find and use alternatives, and the problem solves itself.

        It's not the first time it has happened and it probably will not be that last either. There are a number of ways it ought to worry consumers. 1: When a resource is slipping up (and don't think it isn't right now because of just "a single incident"), prices go up. Why do you think you cannot buy diamonds the size of golf balls for roll-back prices at Walmart? 2: It is a huge environmental disaster that is only getting worse by the second. When raw oil spills in the ocean, it kills... not only does that affect the number of animals, it also affects the other recourses we gain from the ocean.... Watch some news, read a book and get a clue.

        I don't particularly care what Dictionary.com says. If we go by its definition, all soldiers are Murderers, and as such, should be arrested for going to war. Likewise, all humans who kill another person while defending themselves are considered murderers, and should be punished as well.         have you heard of atheists trying to remove the 10 commandments from court houses? even if you dont believe the 10 commandments are holy, they are for the most part accepted as good rules to live by. or atheists trying to have the manger scene removed from public areas. as if the manger scene is hurting anyone. atheists have made a big deal about say "under God" in the pledge of allegiance. are these not examples of atheists pushing their beliefs onto others? not believing in a God is still a belief. it seems to be human nature to try to push their ideas onto others. atheists are no more guilty of this than religious people, though religious people get more attention from it.

        I dont understand what you mean by the courthouse commandments not being the same as the bible's. That would seem to make them less controversial. Secondly, my point about public schools was that Congress, the government, was printing bibles for use in the schools, a clear violation of your interpretation of church and state. it doesnt make sense for the founding fathers to go against the constitution so soon after fighting a war for it. If you read the first amendment, says, "respecting an establishment of religion" which could easily mean "establishing a national religion". I base this on their acceptance of using a bible in public schools. But I repeat, the constitution does NOT use the words "separation of church and state".

        I will agree with people being pushy. But those acts you have mentioned are, for the most part, not harmful. You never hear about Atheists blowing up banks because god is on the money. We just don't want your beliefs shoved down our throats. In a society with "the right to choose" and religious freedom, I don't see how Christianity is so special that they can display their beliefs publicly and complain because not everyone appreciates them. If the 10 commandments can sit in front of court houses, then there should be a giant Buddha statue in Times Square or a pentagram in front of the white house. Christians would complain just as much about those as we do about yours, but you are correct, none of if it would hurt anyone. So we are all equally guilty of being pushy. Can you think of the white house with a satanic symbol on the lawn?

        as long as the religious symbol is in good taste, by which i mean no nudity, violent imagery, and similar socially unacceptable imagery, and the people as a whole want it, then fine, let Buddhists put up a statue on public property. Problem is, most of this country is Christian so getting approval from a majority of the people may be difficult. If a non-christian religious symbol is ever put up in a public place I would accept it and mostly ignore it. I think all opinions and religions should be allowed to be displayed publicly. Christians got a head start because the country was based on Christian principals by Christian men, but if another religion becomes popular enough to usurp the Christian symbols, then that's the people's will. But when the minority try to force out these symbols despite the symbols not being illegal and the majority wanting the symbols, that's what I have a problem with.

        if the people as a whole do want to remove religious symbols, why cant laws get through to remove them? or referendums to ask the people directly? as for the legality of eliminating religious symbols on government land, what makes it illegal? i believe the only source is the 1st amendment, which prevents laws pertaining to religion. it does not stop the expression of religion on government property. it says that you and me have equal laws pertaining to our differing religious beliefs. a Buddhist statue does not prevent me from worshiping how i want, and a manger scene would not stop you from worshiping how you want. a law preventing religious symbols on gov't property seems like an endorsement against religion, which would be just as bad as being for a religion.

        Atheists try and do those things because they are deliberate religious markers in front of government buildings. It sends completely the wrong message. Church and State are separate, and the State endorsing (yes, ENDORSING) and particular religious view is completely unconstitutional, regardless of whether they are good rules to live by or not. "Under God" is again, an example of the government endorsing religion, which is completely wrong. That phrase was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 50's during the Red Scare to unite Americans against the Communist Hoard. It has nothing to do with what America is about, and Atheists are right to be upset by it. How would the Bible Belt feel about the pledge saying "Under Buddha" or "Under Thor"? They are absolutely not examples of Atheists pushing their beliefs, because it is not a belief that Church and State are constitutionally separate or that the US was not founded on religious beliefs -- it's a fact, and it's their right.

        The constitution does not say the words "separation of church and state", though that has become the conventional thought. the first congress, which you would think would follow the constitution the best, actually printed bibles for the use of schools. Many early state constitutions had official state churches. so based on the founding fathers' religious nature, and these 2 examples of religious behavior at that time, it seems clear that the first amendment is to prevent a national church, and to prevent the federal government from making laws for or against religions. however, 10 commandment monuments and manger scenes are perfectly acceptable if the people generally want it. if the people want to stop it they can, or if they want to put up other religious scenes but it is not unconstitutional to have religious symbols in public places. the constitution provides an environment for all religions, even atheism, to coexist side-by-side, not for all religions to disappear.

        Also, if you have a look at the Treaty of Tripoli, it says clearly that America isn't a Christian nation by any means, and so the actions of the first congress to print bibles and establish state churches (if they did in fact do this, citation needed) would probably be ruled unconstitutional. And the fact is that the people don't "generally" want this. Atheists and other religious groups have a right to say that they don't "generally" want the government to endorse Christianity, so that the government knows that we don't "generally" want it.

        I typed up a whole thing and it looks like it didn't post, so here goes again. You're missing the point entirely. The constitution says that congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, which is obviously to prohibit a national religion. However, the idea of it is that the government will remain SECULAR, and will avoid endorsing ANY religion. By placing a manger scene or the ten commandments on Government soil, paid for by taxes from ALL American people, it is clearly endorsing the Christian religion. Religious people get upset because they think that Secularism is the same as Atheism. It doesn't. It doesn't endorse one way or the other. We're not campaigning for everybody to be an Atheist, or for the government to be Atheist, but rather simply Secular. A meeting in the middle, so to speak. Every citizen is free to believe what they want, but the government as a body is not.

        Are you saying atheists dont blame their crimes on something else, like a bad childhood, social conditions, or economic conditions? And I doubt they ever accept that what they did was evil, even if they admit to doing it.         The evidence that all or a significant portion of religious people hate science and are brainwashed is the fact that they dogmatically believe in and try and spread views that are not supported by any kind of science. Even the modern, hip, "normal" Christian or religious person fundamentally believes in things that are scientifically ludicrous. If they really cared about science, then they would never believe those things. As they obviously do believe in ridiculousness, they corrupt science by saying it applies to everything EXCEPT their stupid beliefs. This is a figurative blasphemy to science and scientific discoveries. Also, a lot of evidence points towards Einstein being an atheist, and the basic fact is that, in Newton's time, NOT being a Christian was usually cause for ostracisation or death -- but that doesn't matter, because simply because a really smart person is stupid in some ways doesn't mean that I have to be stupid too. It's the argument from authority fallacy.

You only hear about those so it seems like there are a lot of them, but that is a biased sampling of religious people. Isaac Newton was religious, but he was a great scientist. Same with Einstein.

        ya, it was foolish of me. i just get frustrated when i see people spreading stereotypes for no other reason than to denigrate a group of people. nobody thinks it's right to spread stereotypes like all Mexicans are lazy, or all Africans do drugs, but the stereotypes that all religious people are science hating, brainwashed followers is ok?

        wow, this is why i dont like talking to close minded people. i never once tried forcing my religious views upon any of you, or said anything against science. all i did was address SomeoneStrange's logical fallacies as i saw them. the response i got was stereotypes and generalities. you talk against religion as if you understand religion. you pretend to respect other views, but not when it comes to religion.

        no, it was his fault, he invited this into his soul, that is how evil works you have to invite it in. We are neither born atheists nor possessed, instead we are connected to Spirit and slowly we are taught to disconnect by others around us. It is during this disconnection of Spirit that evil can enter us, fool us, even fool us into believing it does not exist; perhaps even fool us into not believing in God.

        You know, funny thought for you. What makes you so sure that God isn't evil? Perhaps he works to possess your mind from the start. A truly loving God would not force his subjects to have a connection with him, from the moment they are born.

        I know, isn't that the scariest part, even in the bible the Devil's greatest trick was to convince everyone he does not exist. Yet deep within me I know that any entity that stands up for humans to have equality with God has my approval, but that would be Lucifer the Angel. Thus a lie is revealed, Lucifer is the Morning Star, Jesus is the Morning Star, but Satan is not Lucifer, Satan is Mankind as a whole, because we fell from Grace and was kicked out of the Garden. The Devil is not Satan but merely a demon because demons have hierarchies too. There are just as many or more demons than there are humans in the realm of the infinite parallel Universes. So who do we believe? Allah is a pagan moon god, and our Lord may be an alien from another Solar System...likely a Brown Dwarf in the binary star system called Sol. God Almighty is our Spirit from Birth, nothing is forced it is our Right, then we throw it all away if we choose.

        that's funny you see magic and quantum physics as separate entities. You see Christians, other religions, and Atheists as separate entities. The Tree of Knowledge (which is actually the serpent twisting around the tree or around another serpent) was less about knowledge and more about the genes which gave us the ability to procreate on our own. Typically mules are infertile. Lord En-Lil was disgusted with what his brother Enki (Lucifer) had done (giving us his bloodline) that he cast us out of the Garden of Eden in expectation of the man-apes eminent death Enki (our Lord and Savior), the brother of EnLil, Son of Lord Anu, was cast out of Heaven (which is actually the Kingdom in the Heavens/Space) to Earth. Our intelligence comes from that Tree, the genetic Tree. Within us lies the ability to know all knowledge. As for God Almighty that is Quantum Physics, but as for our Lords, again you are being fooled.
